Why work with us?

At Deakin you will have access to benefits such as a variety of leave options including generous parental leave and the ability to purchase additional leave; flexible working arrangements to help manage your work-life balance; ongoing learning and development opportunities to grow your career; an inclusive and supportive culture and environment to work in, both online and on campus.

Who are we?

Deakin is a cutting-edge public university in Victoria, revolutionising education with 61,000 students across five campuses: Melbourne Burwood, Geelong Waurn Ponds, Geelong Waterfront, Warrnambool, and our dynamic online Campus. We're proud to be a progressive and open-minded university, delivering the highest student satisfaction in Victoria and consistently ranked in the top 1% of the world's universities.

The Procurement Coordinator drives sourcing and procurement initiatives, directing financial, business, and commercial operations to empower the University in achieving its strategic goals. This role requires a commitment to excellence, including regular consultations with clients to clarify their information needs, purposes, success criteria, and the timing and nature of advice required.

Strong communication skills are essential, with the ability to use relevant examples and influencing techniques to enhance understanding and support. A solid background in procurement is highly favourable. Additionally, experience in data analytics and fluency in Excel are crucial, as you will need to analyse and interpret data effectively to optimise procurement processes.

Ensure all activities align with time, budget, quality, and resource parameters, adhering to professional practices, legislative requirements, and the University’s procurement policies and procedures. If you excel in these areas and thrive in a dynamic academic environment, we encourage you to apply.

As a Coordinator, Procurement you will:

  • Consult a diverse range of stakeholders and experts to gain a broader and deeper understanding of a specific issue, including by gathering and evaluating information on the market, university needs, categories, key suppliers and contextual factors to inform procurement decisions
  • Provide advice and information on procurement policies and procedures, promoting value-adding insights and recommendations
  • Seek to continuously improve and apply critical learnings from projects and initiatives across the University by leading and facilitating administrative procurement tasks, including the continuous improvement assessments of current processes and articles
  • Distil the core issues from complex information, draw accurate conclusions and condense complex information and next steps into simple concise terms that others can understand

To be successful, you’ll have:

  • A degree with subsequent relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training
  • Demonstrated experience in providing strategic sourcing and procurement services
